Rambi,

<<Have I missed where you shared your belief source and what guides you on "the path"? >> Islam

<<It almost has a Catholic feel to it..>> It should. Islam is also an Abrahamic faith.

<<Why is it a sin to anthropomorphize God,...>> I can not embellish nor take away from the message God has sent us. I am forbidden to associate partners with God. This is the greatest sin in Islam. I am also forbidden to put limits on God's descriptors. All Powerful, Most Merciful, are characteristics but not limiting descriptors. When a temporal descriptor is associated with God it has a limiting consequence. In so doing, many people end up with an "image" of God as an Old Long Bearded man struggling from cloud nine to deal with this unruly universe he created. Of course the notion is so silly, that intelligent adults start teasing each other over the descriptors (why not a woman, what about this or that etc.)

<<Who defines the very nature of God, which seems to me to be the greatest mystery of all?>> God has done an excellent job of that through his messengers. No need to elaborate. In fact it is forbidden for me to do so.
