I think that it should boost IBEM shares as MSFT is known to have a tendency to nudge companies that it holds a stake in to merge (so I guess we should not be surprised if ISLD decides to merge with IBEM). This gives MSFT an indirect way to end up with a large stake in a critical industry leader without raising the eyebrow of regulators. By taking this indirect route, it does not have to defend itself against the argument that MSFT is using it's monopoly raised cash hoards to leverage into dominating other growth fields.

And of coarse an investment does not hurt MSFT's chances of scoring a place for their product with the company that they are backing. ;-)
