Michael,

The contention seems to be that some felt MSFT was deliberately making OS/2 harder to install and configure (drivers, printers.. etc) than their competing Windows project and that was why IBM terminated their partnership with MSFT. Additionally, some claimed that MSFT put their "second team" on the OS/2 project, underpaid and inexperienced programmers and such.

I certainly would call that conspiratorial BS at the least, wouldn't you? We all know that Bill Gates would never do that??

Btw, you DEFINITELY have to read the articles from Windows2000 that I linked to. They describe the history of NT and how it was primarily based upon Digital's VMS system that MSFT bought the rights to. I remembered reading the article in hard copy when it came out and fortunately they maintained an electronic archive I was able to search through. (there are more than single pages to them... look to the bottom of the page for the "pageturner" links). Very good history of how MSFT's corporate bread and butter has been obtaining other people's OS's, hacking them up with cheaply coded GUIs and APIs, and selling them as something awesome.

Regards,

Ron
