It's called enabling technology. If you patent "one little piece" of the mouse trap and all the manufacturers want it to remain competitive......Bingo. You win. Of course there is always the option of stealing IP, but I guess that's why the patent lawyers get the big bucks<gg>

, there will be rush to think up and snap up patents for every idea that ever popped into any digital designer's head.

Actually that rush is already upon us. The stupidest patent I can think of recently was the well-publicized Amazon patent on "one-click" technology. I thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that it was the patent office's job to toss any trivial patents - not happening.
