It gets better, Fred.

I was catching up on my data and needed to link in recent prices off the Internet, using Excel.

So, installing MS Office I found Windows 2000 gives me the Bronx Cheer. Rambling over to the Microsoft site, I could not find a patch for Office 97 to incorporate it into the W2K OS.

Okay, I'll call 'em. Where's the phone number for people who want Windows 2000 support? Well it's here, yes?

support.microsoft.com

Nope.

Was able to get Office installed by running the machine in "Safe" mode.

God, I hope I never need another computer.
