Scumbria, <Maybe I will write up a disclosure for a "single chip microprocessor with integrated DRDRAM memory controller">

Hurry up, Scumbria. I'm sure quite a few other people have already filed patents for such an idea (such as Intel or Compaq/Digital).

The problem with your argument has already been addressed by a few of the people on this thread. Ideas which seem obvious now might not have seemed so obvious back when the patent was filed. If you start your little "IP venture" of yours, how do you know that you will possess the one patent which becomes the next big thing in digital design? And how can you ensure that such a patent will hold up in the courts (e.g. prior art, etc.)?

Granted, there are a few patents which should never have been granted, such as the "one-click" nonsense. But then again, most patents issues are based on incremental improvements, not revolutionary ideas. How do you draw the line between the incremental ideas and the painfully obvious ideas?
