Very interesting article in this month's Harper's on water .. A lot of it has to do with grain growing.

Zach...I own a farm in North Central Kansas and it is on the eastern edge of the drought area. Fortunately we are irrigated. I don't think there is a point of no return. That said, I?m being told that the best we can expect is an average yield on corn and beans this year. Didn't get much in the way of precip this past winter, so the wheat could be below average. I do know that those who aren't irrigated are not expecting much at all.
