Tench,

You reminded me that I haven't checked the Dell pricing for comparable B and T series products (where RDRAM is the only difference). I've posted the configurations previously and the last time I checked them they were at $2207 for the T (SDRAM) series product and $2447 for the B series (RDRAM) product. The $240 delta represented a 10.87% premium for the RDRAM system.

I'm happy to report that the prices on those configurations are now $2157 and $2277 respectively. The delta is now $120 (less than $1 per megabyte) for a 5.56% premium of the RDRAM system over the SDRAM system.

I should also note that the 700Mhz processor in the T series and 733Mhz processor in the B series (which contributes a tiny bit to the delta) are now the lowest end processors that you can get. I suspect that the next check will have to upgrade some of the components.

Dave

<edit: Incidentally, to add 384M more of SDRAM costs $690. To add 384M more of RDRAM costs $1220 (a little less than double). This would bring the total cost of the systems to $2847 and $3497 making the premium 22.8%. Still too high for large memory systems, but great for 128M systems.>
