I just got back from a business meeting with my business partner. He lives in another state. We started a business a year ago, and this was the first time we had ever met face to face. Some of the people we were meeting with were shocked that we had a business going and had never met each other. I find it quite interesting. 500 years ago, or 1,000 years ago, it was not unusual for two people to do business without having met each other personally. No phones, no electricity, no cars, no jets. What they had was trust. That's what made the deals go right. Yes, some of them went wrong, but the ones that went right went right because the partners shared a kind of moral code. They could see that if one partner did well, the other one would too. Their fortunes were tied together, sometimes over tens of thousands of miles and many years. That's what I like about the Internet. We have a tool that can actually bring people together. I think it's as big as the discovery of fire. The hard part about it is the shared code of conduct. People on the Internet don't know my race, my color, or my creed. What they know about me is what they see in writing on the Internet. Bad people assume that everyone else is either bad like them, or stupid. Good people do what is right despite the temptation to do something wrong. I think we do good deeds, at least in part, because we know that at some point in the future, it will be payback time. No matter what dogmatic wrinkles an individual wants to subscribe to, I think the bottom line is pretty simple. What goes around, comes around. Good is right, bad is wrong, no matter what labels you want to put on it. With all the BS that is happening on this planet, there are still good people. People who believe things will get better and who work hard to make sure that they are part of the solution and not part of the problem. At some point in the future, this ball of dirt will either burst into radioactive flame, or people will get together enough to realize that a few bad eggs can't control the truth. I think the truth is pretty simple. You do good, we all win. You do bad, and you lose everything. Anyone who reads Edwarda's posts can tell where she is. Very simple, all you have to do is look.
