Mag, "sound like a good plan?" LMAO, thats my plan EVERYTIME. Just does not seem to always work out that way (ok 20% it works, 80% it does not). Yes, it is a very good plan. It just depends if you still have the feel with the short ones. If you got it, and you know the greens then go for it. Even the fastest public course in my area will hold one with some spin. I find it very funny that you have picked two of my four favorite swings. I have used a mental image of Couples for years. He was always the ideal for me, with that big lazy arc. I also watch Els for nice tempo, but I feel his swing is not right for me. Els has the most beautiful swing, but I think being a big guy lets him get away with it. Els is so smooth its hard to see exactly when his release starts. I think Els and Couples and Tiger for that matter, all have such control that they can actually start letting a bit out early to keep it fluid, but still keep the majority on hold until that fraction before impact. I hit it pretty far compared to the people that I play with, but I have a very late release and it can cause a lot of problems if my timing is off. I have been working to control it better, but there are better ways to hit it the same day after day. Couple does have something a little funny at the top, but I like to think its just his own transition cue. I ignore it and just start my downswing at a pace that good for me. Jim Furke is the one NOT to copy. I have two more that I like to use. I picture Nick Price when I want to hit a knock-down or sneak it out of the trees. I like Nick's compact swing and his follow-up through on less that full shots. He tempo is a bit too fast, but the movement really registers with me for some reason. And last, I picture Woods with just my 3 wood. I use this club for 90% of my tee shots that don't require a lay-up. The way he attacks the 3 wood with that left arm straight and the full hinge but 90-95% backswing is something I have worked to copy. It really works well for me as long as I don't get too fast on the downswing and race the release. Its also tough for me to fully load the hinge, but again I have learned watching Tiger that you don't need to go to John Daly backswings to get excellent distance. I recommend that anyone really looking for more distance to shorten up the back-swing 5-10% and promote a full hinge and late release. Well good luck in your tourney. Like Jones said, there is golf and then there is tournement golf. TH
