I'm not convinced, having read a bit of history, that we are seeing a moral breakdown today, but I guess you already know that.

An example, in a small way: my son goes to a school run by the Episcopal Church (I bet that surprises you), and they have a rather soft-pedalled religion class, in which they read stories from the bible, discuss issues of general ethics, etc. Last year he mentioned that they had read the story of Noah and the ark, and I asked him if he believed the story. Without a moment's hesitation, he replied "Nah. God wouldn't drown all those people".

That's the sort of thing I'm talking about.

I'm just not convinced that there isn't a great deal of human influence in the bible.

I prefer to trust my conscience. I don't know if there is a God or not, but I do know that I have a conscience. And I know that what it says makes sense to me, unlike any religious dogma I have ever come across.

H, Why can't you discuss the problems that you have with the Old Testament? Weren't you the gut that said that too many people were screwing around with interpreting the Bible, and yet you blow away half of the book? It seems that you are the one that is picking and choosing which parts of the Bible are relevant. I say accept it all as the word of God, or reject it as mythology. I prefer the latter, of course.

This is not the thread for cowards. Say what you think about the OT, or bug off.
