Tony, <Another way to look at it is engineers' salaries, about 10,000 of them for a full year, including a lot of overhead.>

Still another way to look at it is the free PCs that we employees are supposed to get sooner or later! ;-)

On the other hand, I heard the free PCs have been delayed until next year because of the supply-side constraints. Bummer. :-(

Tony,

Another way to look at it is engineers' salaries, about 10,000 of them for a full year, including a lot of overhead.

Great point.

To me, whoever derides stock sales income is probably a fan of a company that can't afford to invest, or too stupid.

Intel sure seems to be committed to Intel Capitol as an ongoing division, I wonder how many quarters it should take before their "earnings" should start to be considered recurring? Their results since the start of Intel Capitol:

4th Q 99 - $320 million
1st Q 00 - $449 million
2nd Q 00 guidance - $750 million, revised to $2.3 billion

Obviously they won't "earn" $2.3 billion on an ongoing basis, but $750 million isn't chump change.

I also wonder if the capitol gains stay in the Intel Capitol division for future investment, or are commingled with other Intel operating funds. Could be hard to find a home for $2.3 billion. John Hull, are you listening?
