as late as the 1950s, two parent families that attended church were not yet considered weird or threatening

The 1950s are beyond my effective memory, but I get the impression that they were a time when anything other than a two parent churchgoing family was considered weird or threatening. That's no longer the case, which I don't see as any great loss.

Have you ever encountered anyone here - or anywhere - that thought a two-parent churchgoing family was weird or threatening? I haven't, but perhaps I lead an excessively sheltered life.
