OT/....To Gray or Not to Gray?

- Natural Instincts for Men Survey Debunks Common Myths About
Men & Gray Hair -

NEW YORK, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- It's long been believed that women find gray hair on a man sexy. Yet while it may
work well for Sean Connery and a few others on the silver screen (no pun intended!), it seems that at the turn of the millennium,
the ever-swinging pendulum of public opinion has begun its move in the other direction. In fact sales of men's haircolor products
have been increasing steadily since 1994. Clairol Natural Instincts for Men wanted to find out why, so it recently conducted a
survey to study the trend and hopefully debunk some commonly held myths about gray hair and men. Like everything else,
conceptions of the modern man are clearly evolving.

In the most glaring revelation, the survey found that salt and pepper does not have the cache it once did: 73% of respondents
said that they do not find men with gray hair sexy.

And while at one time, it might have seemed too vain, or even emasculating for a man to color his hair, the majority of those
men and women surveyed saw nothing wrong with it.

On the contrary, when asked to select the adjectives that best describe a man who colors his hair (from choices such as vain,
silly, smart, etc.), the majority of people participating in the Natural Instincts for Men survey chose ``modern.''

The next highest group tied, with equal numbers choosing ``smart'' and ``confident.''

Most of those surveyed did, however, see a few upsides to having gray hair. The vast majority thought it would be easier for a
man with gray hair to get a seat on public transportation and receive good service at a restaurant.

And finally, one more popular belief was definitely confirmed -- tall dark and handsome still rules: 67% of people surveyed find
black and brown hair to be the most attractive hair colors on men, with only 21% choosing blonde, and 14% choosing red.
Some things never change ... thank goodness haircolor does!
