Mula - I have been at customer presentations (my clients) where CPQ presented roadmap information. Some of the material was presented under NDA so I can't point to it. But one example is mechanisms for multi-processor lock stepping which are required in a fault tolerant machine with 4,000 processors, but are probably not a good design trade-off for Intel - not when the volume of use for that feature represents a tiny percentage of IA64 demand. Intel needs to budget real estate to provide the features CPQ, HP and others need for their volume businesses. There's no free lunch - every specialized feature added to the chip means something else is left out or reduced.
