For the sake of accuracy, there is also claim #24
"..wherein the first memory includes means to read
the first control information.", which probably
implies the presence of a register, but
the Rambus die-hards seem do not bother to
read their own patents...

Hi Ali Chen; Re Rambus' patent 755 on access time latency.

I had got the impression that they wanted to send the access time over with each (read) packet so that they could get better bus utilization. The amazing thing is that the patent office would let them generalize to the SDRAM patent.
