Ratbert, >Here is a comparison of future 64 bits chips. It includes a damning technical critique of Itanium.

Funny you should say that, because, from the table in the article:

Table 4. Relative Strengths of 64 bit High End MPU Families Looking Forward

IA-64 has the best overall score. Assigning 1 to A, 2 to B, and not paying heed to + or - (B- = B), for the sake of time,

IA64 score is 17 (lower is better)
PA Risc 22
Alpha 18
Power (IBM) 19
SPARC 19

I realize that the survey is weighted somewhat toward expected longevity.

To read your synopsis, I would have expected the author to give IA64 an F. BTW, where's the AMD entry? MIA?

Tony

RatBrain - Re: "Here is a comparison of future 64 bits chips. It includes a damning technical critique of Itanium."

Gee...absolutley no data on the ITanium yet the author - a self-professed expert - damns the ITanium to death.

I guess that's why IBM, NEC, Compaq, Dell, HP, Unisys, Hitachi and Fujitsu are rapidly preparing their first generation ITanium systems !!
