if you buy on monday, t+3 will be thursday.

for dividends, i think you have to buy it couple days before ex-date. i have to double check on that.

I believe you are correct. The record date is really unimportant. It's the ex-dividend date that actually determines the shareholders of record. ex being excluded from dividend if purchasing on or after that date. I checked my records, and the buys I was thinking of were on the day prior to the ex-dividend date not the record date. Sorry for the mis-guidance.
