That is not instinct. Such a thing as "religious instinct" does not exist. No instinct exists in Man. There are "drives" such as the sex drive which is driven by physical and emotional needs, but that is not an "instinct."

No, there is no religious instinct. Some people seek tradition, old houses, old ways and things just because it gives them the illusion of continuity and the sense of a safe harbor from the unknown. It does not actually shield them from change or the variables of the living universe, but they choose to believe that it does.

Tradition is like a weak tea brewed by those who fell into a rut doing something one way and excluding any other way of accomplishing the same thing. It is a tea steeped with fear of the unknown.
