Globe says small TSE is beautiful for manipulators

The Globe and Mail reports in its Thursday edition that the Toronto Stock Exchange's relatively low liquidity leaves it open to the potential for orchestrated or manipulative trading. Reporter Guy Dixon says the Canadian stock market is relatively small and, as a result, manipulative trades can have an impact on share prices. That, however, may not be such a problem for the much bigger New York Stock Exchange. With a market capitalization of around $1.5-trillion, the TSE can experience heavy pendulum swings in its benchmark indices whenever large trades hit the market or traders act in concert. In April, for instance, large automatic block trades by a handful of big Toronto dealers just before the closing bell caused the TSE 300 to drop nearly 200 points in two or three minutes. The possibility of manipulation is especially the case with illiquid stocks, which typically have a wide spread between bid and ask prices. A number of fund managers also engage in window dressing at the end of periods.

SFF:

Actually, no. I got to trading some other resource
plays with more volume.

We're definitely hitting the dog days of summer. I'm
thinking about shutting down for a couple of months and
relaxing.

Gold sector:

Vital...you still watchin' the yellow dog?

I haven't been this bullish on the golds in 5 years.
I am taking every opportunity to buy the golds on weakness.
My sincere hope is that the U.S. dollar goes for one more
rally and we see the golds sell off for awhile.

I'm getting ready for the day when gold busts a move and
every stupid analyst out there says "Hmmm...didn't expect
that to happen".

Let's light this candle. <g>
