Bingo - Ruff, that's the correct answer and the crux of the matter. And therein lies the real rub, the real issues:

1. Will QCOM successfully obtain the essential IPR to sell a DS chip, and if so, at what net cost, and what likely share might QCOM have in the DS ASIC business?
2. Will the likely head start of 1x/HDR/3X be enough to at least partially stanch the overwhelming tide of the GSM entrenched forces, and if so, to what guesstimated degree?

You should post that PM response again, and again, as often as it takes, to get that message across. It is a whole lot more intelligent analysis than either the "CDMA2000 will turn the whole GSM crowd into toast" or "DS, MC, whatever, it's all the same" drivel that gets posted so frequently.

Obviously, I think your correspondent has got it right, or I wouldn't be so long. There are some (like molloy and a few others) who have somewhat differing viewpoints. These are all worthwhile exploring.

The battle I'm trying to wage over here is to dismiss the simplistic cheerleading that in some form or fashion ends up factored into the stock price, which is not a healthy thing IMO.
