NW -- no trouble with them growing but... I wanted hemlocks around the rear border in a sweeping u shape. Oaks and maples grow much too well here. They get tall fast to put leaves in the gutters and the leaves are like leather,,, I had them all removed. Japanese & Lace maples are in but more ornamentals to arrive. Already the purple plum have little starts under then. Since I hate to mulch every year a stone is being put down. Once a year run the blower over it and never have to replace or add to it again... Getting ready to retire and enjoy--- not retire and work.
