NTT DoCoMo keen on S.Korea, mum on SK Telecom
stake

TOKYO, June 22 (Reuters) - NTT DoCoMo President Keiji Tachikawa said on Thursday his
company is interested in expansion in South Korea, but declined to comment on whether it may
take an equity stake in South Korea's SK Telecom .

Asked whether discussions about an equity stake in SK Telecom were moving forward,
Tachikawa declined to reply directly, but said: ``Asia is the epicentre (of our overseas strategy)
and South Korea is right next door. We will go with any company as long as it is strong.''

Japanese media reported in May that DoCoMo, Japan's dominant mobile phone carrier, was in
talks to buy a 10 to 20 percent stake in SK Telecom, South Korea's biggest mobile phone
service operator.

NTT DoCoMo said earlier this month it is considering a tie-up with SK Telecom that would allow DoCoMo mobile phones to be
used in South Korea.

DoCoMo's systems, considered at the cutting edge of wireless Internet access technology, are set to be introduced to Asia as part
of the Japanese company's expansion strategy.

DoCoMo took a 19 percent stake in Hong Kong's Hutchison Telephone Co Ltd in December 1999.
