Intel Investors - Fry's in Sunnyvale, CA now has 1 GHz Coppermines for sale !!

They are offering a special package - a Boxed 1 GHz Coppermine (They call it a GigaMine), a VC820 board with 128 MegaBytes of RDRAM memory (800 MHz) for the rather dear price of $2199.

Looks like the yields are good, the ramp is fine !

Paul

RatBrain - Re: "The EPIC partners are not scared of Merced's performance. "

They most certainly ARE !!

As evidenced by your next comment :

"-IBM has stepped in and now provides the future FABing ability for the other 64 bit chips."

Why else would HP and Compaq turn to a COMPETITOR (IBM) to make their next generation processors ?

Because FAB's are expensive, and with the volumes of their chips they wouldn't recoup the fixed cost. But this new FABless chip company business model has (forgive me) shifted the paradigm!
