Billionaire investment guru Warren Buffett is scheduled to have surgery July 19 to remove several noncancerous polyps from his colon and will stay at an undisclosed Omaha hospital for several days to recover.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the Omaha-based conglomerate that Buffett heads, announced June 21 that doctors found polyps in Buffett's colon during a routine physical examination. The company said that its 69-year-old chairman otherwise was in excellent health, but at the time, Berkshire didn't say when the operation would take place.

Tuesday, a company spokeswoman said the surgery is scheduled for July 19, but she wouldn't identify the hospital where it will be done. Buffett is expected to return to work after a short recovery period.

Berkshire last month announced Buffett's condition to forestall rumors about his health - the sort of false rumors that caused the company's stock price to fall in February.

A polyp is a growth of tissue from the intestinal wall that protrudes into the intestine and is usually noncancerous. Doctors typically remove polyps because they have the potential to become cancerous.<<<

Feel better soon, Mr. Buffett...
