Berkshire Hathaway Inc., the Omaha-based conglomerate that Buffett heads, announced June 21 that doctors found polyps in Buffett's colon during a routine physical examination. The company said that its 69-year-old chairman otherwise was in excellent health, but at the time, Berkshire didn't say when the operation would take place. Tuesday, a company spokeswoman said the surgery is scheduled for July 19, but she wouldn't identify the hospital where it will be done. Buffett is expected to return to work after a short recovery period. Berkshire last month announced Buffett's condition to forestall rumors about his health - the sort of false rumors that caused the company's stock price to fall in February. A polyp is a growth of tissue from the intestinal wall that protrudes into the intestine and is usually noncancerous.
