Scumbria,The fact remains, that Rambus future lies heavily on the outcome of the IP conflicts. The "vice chairman and CEO of Korea's largest listed company" begs to differ with you (RDRAM will be quite successful all by itself)... --------------------Samsung Electronics Sees RDRAM Market Surging in Next 2 YearsBy Ian King Seoul, June 22 (Bloomberg) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest computer memory chipmaker , said it expects the market for memory chips based on Rambus Inc. technology to increase tenfold in the next two years. Samsung, which makes 80 percent of the new chips, said it shipped its 10 millionth Rambus dynamic random access memory chip this quarter. The Korean company forecasts RDRAM products will make up 20 percent of its production this year, rising to 40 percent by the end of 2001. Rambus' technology, which the company says removes one of the main bottlenecks in speeding up computers -- the speed with which the main memory can receive data from the processor -- remains controversial. Samsung forecasts the market for RDRAM will total $3.65 billion this year, rising to $38 billion by the end of 2002. ``We will continue to ramp RDRAM production to meet the increasing demand from the PC market and emerging consumer and communication markets,'' Yun Jong Yong, vice chairman and CEO of Korea's largest listed company said in a statement. --------------------- Unless, of course, you're going to claim that all of the Japanese also don't like Samsung and think it's "weak" as well. I know the frustration of having the losing position when the tide turns (go check out the obnoxiousness of the "bear attack" last September when the delay was announced). Don't tell me you're surprised that you're taking some abuse now that the news seems to be very positive for Rambus. Even Carl appears to have recognized the futility of arguing the bear position, at least for the moment (I'm sure he'll return when the first bit of negative news appears in the press). In the meantime, Samsung (the top memory manufacturers) says that RDRAM will be very successful. Good luck today. Dave
