Well, there is a valid reason or two that companies can pay groups, companies for retail support. The reasons being to bring attention to company developments... undiscovered companies etc. These may be companies that need help with financing etc.

The problem I have is when the payee dumps a significant amount of the stock into the retail market as soon as the volume comes in. This is crap. Positions should be liquidated in small amounts when there is good volume and CERTAINLY at higher prices.
