(Canadian Imperial) announced today that it has agreed to a strategic alliance with Baker Hughes Canada (Baker Hughes) for western Newfoundland. Under this alliance, the companies will work closely together to develop the potential petroleum resources of this emerging basin. Baker Atlas' Norward division are currently testing the Port au Port No. 1 well on behalf of Canadian Imperial and a geophysical program over the Garden Hill Field is planned for July by Baker Hughes' Western Geophysical group. Canadian Imperial holds exploration rights to approximately 525,000 net acres onshore and offshore western Newfoundland. Under a farm-out from Hunt and PanCanadian, the company is in the initial stages of developing the Garden Hill Field.
