Pomp,

I agree with everything you said, and especially the part about being more patient with each other.

In the interest of fostering a "kindler, gentler" board, I'll submit two theories behind the Samsung press release, one for the bulls and one for the bears.

Bulls Scenario: Samsung, which is as closely tied to the memory industry as any company can be, has realized that DDR chipsets will, in fact, not be successful and that DDR is, in the words of Sony, unstable. Since Samsung is the leader in RDRAM production, they put out the press release now to encourage additional sales of RDRAM during this period when they're getting the additional profit margin on the chips.

Bear Scenario: Samsung, which is the leader in RDRAM production, is sitting on a stockpile of chips that they can't get rid of, due to the lack of success of RDRAM systems. In the interests of trying to move these chips, they put out the press release to make it appear that the demand is, in fact, growing. But once they unload these warehoused chips, they'll quietly remove their support of RDRAM.

There. Just doing my part for world peace.

Dave

Pomp, you are absolutely correct. I think this thread is just a reflection of how controversial and how risky of a stock RMBS really is. And although this thread could use a little cleaning up, I figure anyone who wants to be in the game (either on the bull or the bear side) already knows that it's going to be a rough-n-tumble kind of game.
