under what circumstances would you be intransigent?
A good background in the scientific methods and philosophy trains a person to hold firm beliefs but be flexible to change when new evidence is presented. I like to think that there is no area I would be intransigent about, although as I age it does become harder to undergo a paradigm shift.

People on the left can be stubborn and out of touch too. There are a significant number of radical vegitarians and PETA members in this town who are every bit as loony as the fundies. They don't get my support either.

Govt. monopoly of education? There are a lot of problems there, but disintigrating the schools into self-selected groups of isolation is worse than the current environment. After all, I went to public school and came out all right.
