IMO it's significant that in a down-day like today M$FT is resilient enough to signal that the market has digested the crap and that there is not much scope going forward for the Jackson-Reno gang.

Tony,

Yeah, they're in competition, but they also have
alliances (some significant) with many companies
on your list. Some on the list are huge customers
of Sun. That's not so different from anyone
else in business: you have alliances with your
competitors and sell them equipment and services.

Remember, Tony, there's competition, to be sure,
but the pie is enormous: big enough for lots of
players.

Oracle is allied with everything, ranging from commatose (Digital ) Palmer to Penguin. Is it significant ?

Sun allies around the Java/Net Platform:
- Oracle
- IBM
- HP
- Bea/Weblogic
- Netscape (AOL)
- Inprise
(I'm leaving off quite a few here)

Sun isn't just a hardware company.
