I agree DELL is the logical candidate

The reason is that DELL is the most pragmatic of the boxmakers and isn't afraid to embrace the post-server era and thrive in a commodity market. In fact, I would argue that a DELL+EMC alliance would be IBM, SUNW, CPQ, and HWP's worst nightmare for it would demonstrate in no uncertain terms that the post-server era had arrived.

This of course all dovetails nicely with MSFT's "Microsoft.NET" initiative it unveiled today. Recall that the iron lung which is allowing servers to keep a toehold in the IT center is legacy applications. As these legacy applications are swept away by a new generation of XML-based software services the last justification for the central server will be swept away with them. Two years is about right for the balance to tip decisively in this direction, so the timing matches up nicely with MR's timetable.
