Apparently Hitachi and Toshiba thought that the patent would hold. The workaround for SDRAM is fairly simple, however. Hitachi is probably just buying time to implement the workarounds.

What exactly do you mean by a workaround? I mean, I understand literally what it means but I am sure the complete definition is a little more complicated.

In addition, if the workaround is fairly simple, why has one not been implemented prior to now?
