you underestimate the power of belief on all parties.
The fundies seem to come in two ages, teenagers and the near elderly. I generally avoid the teenagers since they only know stock phrases. I did have some come to my door to share the good news of christ and collect canned goods for some mission. I asked them where all the water went after Noah's flood. They tried to claim it evaporated so I asked them how a few thousand feet of water could leave so few clouds (it was a sunny day). Then they claimed it could have sank in the earth so I asked them how it got past the magma since it's obviously not still in the aquafer. So they left without any canned goods and I thought I heard them mutter about my imminent damnation. I'm sure their preacher explained that God drank it by now.

I've had more conversations with the older members. When I'm not in the mood to ask them trick questions and listen to their beliefs it's clear they are terrified of their own mortality while at the same time dissatisfied with their current existance. It think their belief was nearly the only thing keeping them going.

I'm not sure where the members between 20 and 50 hide.
