*very OT to myself* alas, amazon and cdnow used to let you hotlink directly to their sound clips. it appears they've now nipped that one. pavement's an "indie rock" band. their roots are in charlottesville and the lead singer, stephen malkus, is notorious for both his cryptic and hilarious lyrics. here's what i intended to hit you with (a sidebar homage to the lead singer of Rush in their song "Stereo"): "What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?" A band mate chimes in: "I know him, and he does!" Malkmus responds: "Well, you're my fact-checking cuz."
