JHN. the user interface controls are made functional mainly through embedded software. and although it incorporates the the handset buttons, screen size, etc. and is obviously separate from "air interface", in speaking with NOK this a.m. they state they will continue to utilize their own baseband which, under their "system", incorporates the ASIC or air interface control. the question remains. what does this say about Nokia, Qualcomm and 3g?
