Telson, Nokia Partner to Create New CDMA Products - Korea Times hk.co.kr Telson Electronics, a wireless terminals and related accessories provider, and Nokia, a mobile phone and network supplier headquartered in Finland, yesterday signed an agreement for the joint development, manufacture and supply of CDMA (code division multiple access) products for Korea and other markets. The deal is designed to strengthen Nokia's focus on the Korean market and its portfolio of CDMA products, Nokia officials said. Telson expects the agreement to bring access to new market segments with the leading brand in the industry. Under the partnership, Nokia will use its CDMA competence to provide the design and user interface for the products and provide specifications and product requirements. Telson will deliver its specifications and undertake the development and production of the mobile phones according to Nokia's requirements. Nokia and Telson are committed to a long-term partnership and will extend it to other markets for mutual benefits. Commenting on the partnership, Nokia Mobile Phones Asia-Pacific's Senior Vice-President, Nigel Litchfield said, ``Our partnership with Telson will give us the impetus to provide the Korean market with the most competitive and localized CDMA products in the fastest and most effective way.'' ``Through this partnership, Telson intends to grow to one of the top three CDMA terminal suppliers worldwide by the year 2003. Founded in 1992, Telson is a leading supplier of mobile handsets and pagers in Korea. The company has focused on CDMA products since 1997 and supplied more than 3 million units to Korean, U.S. and Latin American markets. In 1999, Telson's net sales totaled $350 million. Who left the back door open? Is, or is not, CDMA 2000 equal to 1X? From Telson Press Release Feb 23, 2000, Under the terms of the multi-million dollar, royalty-bearing agreement, QUALCOMM has granted Telson I&C a license under QUALCOMM's proprietary CDMA technology and patents to develop, manufacture and sell subscriber unit products for cdmaOne, cdma2000 and High Data Rate (HDR) air interface technologies. The license also includes the rights to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA data modem cards for wireless data and voice applications.
