Good question. But the refrain from the Whoraldo's of this world is that one witness isn't enough.

Therefore, the rule for all would-be murderers is to make sure to kill all the witnesses save one, who won't count.

Yes, because witnesses testify all the time to conflicting details, identify the wrong person, are convinced a person was the one they saw even to the point of denying incontrovertible evidence when confronted with the FACT that the accused was not even in the same city when a murder took place. (From an actual case in the 1980s.)
