In defense of Cheryl, I think her point is that INTC and MSFT are SO late on delivering promises that they are in danger of being third stream. "Wanting to make sure of quality" is enough to make just about anyone's eyes roll outside of Redmond given the 25 year MS history. Understanding that W2k is a major leap forward in quality for MS and isn't selling all that well should give you an idea of how many MS customers have moved to Missouri. -JCJ

A comment about ".net".

".net" and NGWS are real, and the development and application environment will truly enable developers to evolve the Web into a much greater experience than it is today.

Competitors and Microsoft-bashers can throw out their hopeful "vaporware" comments. They can hope that it doesn't have all sorts of things like openness, security, performance, scalability, privacy, etc. They can hope C# is just a knockoff of another language and will be irrelevant. They can even hope that the whole thing will just go away. They can do all those things, but soon the world will realize how much substance there really is. There is some truly groundbreaking, incredible work about to be made available to everyone, and I think that those who have no axe to grind will absolutely love it.
