Dan, I agree with you. I have been privy to plenty of incidents of overzealousness to place blame and clear the docket, so to speak.

Another famous case: Remember that guy in Boston who murdered his pregnant wife, but his guilt wasn't discovered for some time? In the meantime, Boston's finest had managed to get a couple of hapless guys to confess to her murder.

As an aside, at the time, I did not believe hubby's story for the simple reason that the "muggers' had not stolen his car phone, the one he used to call and blather his story to the police. At that time, car phones were frightfully expensive and had a lot of street value. Basic reasoning, no?
