rudedog, it's nice to hear from someone with something approaching hands-on experience once in a while. I've been stepping through IA64 assembly for about 6 months now in the process of developing a some 64-bit apps and it's rare to find instruction bundles with all three slots filled with instructions. Until IA64 compiler technology ramps up to a new level, I don't thing you're going to see any significant performance gains from the 64-bit data path. Too bad Alpha 64-bit NT got squashed in the confluence of economic/business events just when it could have found it's real calling.
