Regarding data service to aircraft, I'm extremely curious to see what the antenna/receiver equipment package looks like...in terms of cost, mass, power, and etc. Also, it's not completely clear whether the 200Kbps is per aircraft reciever or deliverable to each passenger on on demand...(I know they imply the latter, but we've been burned many times by assuming implications are facts).

If G*/Q can pump 200K through a reasonable sized set of equipment one wonders what do we need Skybridge for?

gdichaz, Boy are you asking the wrong person questions.
I'm dumber than a fence post. LOL I mostly just copy and paste and look for a response. I went digging in past post and found this one.

You could read it. Then read this post which is a reply to it from ccryder, his profile says he is a Rocket Scientist. Seemed like he thought it was all quite simple.

Also found in my digging that it is about time for the Telit Sat 600 to come out and another old post that looked more interesting now.

Globalstar satellite telephony technology:
Algo Vision gains extended distribution area - after Germany now also in Austria and Switzerland.
Bremen, 09.03.2000. -
In February the Bremen company Algo Vision Systems GmbH already concluded a contract with Elsacom for distribution of the Globalstar technology in Germany (see press information dated 02.02.2000). This marketing area has now also been extended to cover Austria and Switzerland. Elsacom (www.elsacom.com) represents Globalstar technology in 24 countries.

Algo Vision (www.algovision.de) is a leader in the development and realisation of new methods of global image transmission. By harnessing the power of wavelet technology, the company has opened up a new world of possibilities in the efficient transmission of still and moving pictures.

The Globalstar technology, a highly advanced technique for reliable voice, data and image transmission, will boost the Algo Vision applications in its existing markets, explained Martin Fliege, Managing Director of Algo Vision. Armed with the distribution rights for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the company will initially open up the circle of customers for satellite telephony. These customers will then have access to all further developments of the latest satellite technology such as the transmission of data and pictures.

The combination of the Globalstar technology with the present spectrum of services offered by Algo Vision naturally also means big advantages for its present customers, such as for example in the field of the remote maintenance of plant and machinery (TeleService). Today, production operations are often sited in rural areas with insufficient communications coverage. Especially in such cases, Algo Vision's TeleService customers will benefit greatly from the Globalstar technology.
