keep in mind, i don't know about gottfried, but i could have gone on and on for untold pages, citing all the merits of this software. its various 'doctors' (such as windoctor) are really neat. the very first time i installed norton utilities, which was before they were packaging the systemworks suite, i ran windoctor and it discovered and repaired something like 54 conflicts and errors. one poster on this thread may have set the record with 150+ errors fixed.

truth is, i was looking hard at installing win2000 on my machine. i've run the little microsoft win2k compatibility test... i'll need new drivers for my monitor and printer. i already have the os in an unopened box. i'd really like to go forward with the install. i am drawn by what i hear is unsurpassed stability and no resource drains. the downside, and it's a big one, seems to be installation hell and compatibility probs. but i was willing to accept those drawbacks and at least try an install on a separate partition.

then i noticed that most of the norton tools are not compatible with win2k. and i simply said, forget about it. <g3> no av, no cleansweep, no utilities? don't want a puter without 'em. i suspect that symantec will come out with software soon that works with 2k, but until then, i don't want the new os.

just rambling...

:)
