Benchmarks are of little practical value in the real world, David. Anyone who bases technology decisions mainly on benchmark data and sales hype is failing to perform due diligence and should take a remedial course in saying the phrase "Would you like fries with that?". Of course, we've already established that you don't get out much, so it comes as no surprise that you seem to take benchmarks so seriously. As my old algebra teacher used to say, "Figures don't lie, but liars will figure".

The Sun vs. Mickeysoft dialog is getting really old, it's the world against MS, and the world shall prevail, from end-users to vendors. MS is the next IBM. If you don't know what I mean by that, research the period from about 1985 to 1995. AS IBM was, so shall MSFT become.

I do believe that MS has some potential, but not until management all the way to the top changes dramatically. That herd has a serious case of old fart's syndrome, and must be put down before MS can adapt to a changed world.
