I did a clean install of W2K onto a new PC ( home-built cheapie clone ) W2K was the easiest Microsoft installation I've ever done, it found and installed drivers for my zipdrive, modem, SCSI, network and video cards with NO problems at all.

I have Norton Utilities on my old Win95 laptop, never even bothered putting it on my Win98 PC, don't miss it at all.

No other OS on this PC.

Mark,

I just downloaded Norton Utilities from the site previously posted. (By Gottfried)

While loading, it reported I had two .dll read only files and asked if I wanted to overwrite them. Not knowing for sure what to do, I said "Yes".

After loading the upgrades, etc., it reported I had 92 errors/mistakes on my C:Drive. I elected the Fix all button and NU reported it had fixed 90 of them. I suspect my previous choice to overwrite the .dll files was the reason all of them were not fixed. The strange thing though, was the box that said "Files not fixed" was 0.

Now, as for the comparison to the WIN98 defrag tool, I defrag fairly frequently (when I think about it) The W98 defrag tool usually reports that I am 1,2, or 3% fragmented.
I always defrag anyway.

The Norton tool announced that I was 84% fragmented. seems to me to be a dramatic difference.

I haven't been using it long enough to be able to report on 'puter performance, so I'll get back to you on that.

Later.

Have fun,
Phil

mr. mark...re:upgrades from hell. I wished my install
had been that easy. If possible W2k should be a clean
install. Actually, neither 4 softie techs nor I could get
it installed over 98. I should have just dynamited my
machine and got it over with <ggg>. However, I have tested
it for the last 4 days (3 active trading days) and frankly
I'm amazed...not ONE crash. The OS is worth whatever it takes to run a trading station. Well, I have said enough
about this product for tonight.
