I don't think Citrix's current situation is remotely comparable to IBM's when Gerstner took over. IBM was (and still is) the Gorilla of mainframes; Citrix is the gorilla of nothing. IBM was not only ignoring its customers, but treating them incredibly shabby; I haven't heard of anything at all like that happening with Citrix's customers. IBM had a diverse portfoio of products and services; Citrix is much closer to being a one-trick pony than to being a diversified provider. IBM enjoyed huge brand recognition, though a tarnished one; I've yet to talk to anyone outside of the IT profession who has heard of Citrix. And most important, IBM had suffered from a series of horrible quarters whereas Citrix has up until this debacle had a hugely important string of consecutively good quarters.
