Idle chatter.....
Loaded to the gunwales with exotic goods and services to support the ever-growing Web encompassing the globe,
(and with some well-heeled passengers ensconced in first class cabins) the mighty Dell ship, which exceeds in capacity all but the antiquated steamer Compac, will soon leave the doldrums of the 40 th Latitude to begin her 13th yearly voyage to faraway places.
The ships itinerary, global in nature, will be announced by the captain and officers on the forecastle at 9:00 AM CT July 20, YOOL,2000 AD. Free munchies and cokes-no rum.

<<<< Doldrums per FAST search:Sandwiched between the north-east trades of the northern hemisphere and the south-east trades in the southern hemisphere, the Doldrums, also known as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), is an area of low pressure lying along the equator. Winds are light or non-existent, the weather is hot and sticky, and thunderstorms and squalls can appear with little warning. Yachts can be becalmed for days on end. The Doldrums vary each year, but never extend far south of the equator. A striking advantage can be gained by a yacht which crosses the doldrums at their narrowest point - though to locate this in shifting variable conditions requires luck as well as skill.
In short, in the Doldrums almost anything can happen and that sums up quite accurately what you can expect to find on this page>>>>.

Hi Sig, re: As a rough calculation, Dell has managed to expand the workforce by 50% and facilities by 40% in the past year...

Thanks for mentioning Dell Ventures. It is one of the reasons for owning a cash cow, they have more money than they need for their own growth. On top of that, they know where to invest it.

In regards to facilities, I find it hard to know how much they are investing there so I just look at people. With higher output/square foot though, 40% growth can yield much higher unit growth. I use +30% growth numbers for HDL as he seems to worry a lot.

Best,
Mike

sig: Dell ventures adding .03 1Q.
Dell financials which includes income from financing Dell equip. and profits from stock and options added .02 for 1Q.
It will be nice if Dell gives a breakdowm each.
I expect this .02 or more will be a given every qtr.
Dell ventures profits may not show up into the bottom line for 2-6 quarters. But the indirect benefits from these should show in operations. This may be a good qs. for you guys(wh0o are going to annual meeting) to pose to Tom Merideth.
Wew need to look at Dell as atleast 3 different cos.
1. Regular Ops.
2. Financing and trading.
3. Dell Ventures.

Of course most of you know Dell better than I do. Hopefully you can keep on shining light on each of these three cash cows for Dell.
