An interesting comparison ... one other aspect which I believe is common to the two environments is that when one does get to the situation of having a highly performant external environment, one encounters a sort of "impedence match" in the interface between external and internal. Thus, outsourcing of data or services may or may not be more efficient depending on the inefficiency of the interface.

I don't either in the near term; However, CTXS might be a natural play in the future (2002 if Gilder is right.) At the moment, they are still a company ahead of their time, looking for market forces that would create a tornado. Their business (should it survive) seems to be made for primacy of external bandwidth. BWDIK
