chic, >Yes, for a very short time. IBM's line will be moving from .25um to .18um in the fall, which will give a good performance boost. In 2001, the POWER4 will be released which is going to be a killer chip. It will contain 2 CPU's per chip. 4 of these chips will be on one module the size of the palm of your hand. This little 4 chip 8 CPU module will provide more power than the current S80 has with 24 processors.

Now that you've told the competition what they need to do, I'm sure that Sun Microelectronics will whip out a comparable CPU chip solution, ship it off to TI to build it, and Sun'll be right back up on top.

All kidding aside, don't you have any kind of 'keep the new developments quiet policy at IBM'? They used to be paranoid about security, and walk people out the door, take it back, transfer to them to Northern Minnesota in the winter for blabbing. You certainly can do what you want, but I'd check it out myself.

Tony

I thought you were going to give the SUNW thread a respite from all of this until later in the year, Chip. What happened? -JCJ

Contrary to some earlier posts. SUNW is kicking IBM's butt in servers according to the following link released by SUNW:

biz.yahoo.com

I tend to trust their integrity in the release.
