Fuddy:

Re: "No Intel optimizing compilers here yet Athlon get's it's butt kicked pretty bad by PIIIs. An interesting thing to note is the dramatic boost for the new Xeons with 1Meg on-die L2. I have seen results using Intel optimizing tools and the results are even MUCH more dramatic."

Comment: Same old song as in October...Trouble is the song's as worn as is the PWeeIII architecture...If you can find new Xeon, and that's a stretch, try to find the stockpile of cash required to pay for it!!! (If only it could be produced in significant quantities and at a price the consumer is willing to pay!!!)The Intel spinmasters never tire it seems!!!

Elmer, I see the Mac G3-4 seem to kick both asses(P-III and Athlon) and I also see a trned that the faster a P-III gets the slower it is in SETI times.? at least in many cases, that seems to be the case...or is this just a bad test space with enormous variance in systems making side by sides not too valid?

Bill

Whatever you say elmer, keep talking.

When you quit being long and holding bullish positions on AMD stock, then someone might take your posts seriously.

If things were as bad as you try to present, you and pauL would lose your admiration of Jerry and sell the stock.

Make it so,
Mysef

Elmer, re:SETI@home, I received several email responses from disgruntled 3DNow coders. Apparently, SSE optimizations are included in the SETI@home client by virtue of the compiler.

3DNow! optimized versions were developed by several people but the SETI organization rejected their usage because they were swamped just trying to keep their servers and radiotelescope running. Since the project is almost finished, it is unlikely we will ever see an officially sanctioned 3DNow!-optimized SETI@home client.

I did notice that the PowerPC outranked PIII in single PC implementations. Must be that MOTOROLA COPPER PROCESS.
